Is hormone therapy covered in BC? Yes. Since March.

If you have BC medical coverage (MSP) and a prescription, hormone therapy is free at the pharmacy. Patches, gels, tablets, progesterone, vaginal estrogen¹. No form, no deductible, no income test. Hand over your BC Services Card and it’s done¹.

This began on March 1, 2026, when a new BC PharmaCare plan, called Plan NP, started covering menopause hormone therapy in full. Before that it cost $240 to $1,800 a year out of pocket².

The fine print, which is short

Age doesn’t matter. Diagnosis doesn’t matter. “If a client has a prescription for a Plan NP medication, it is covered”³.

Nearly everything is free. A few versions are “partial benefit,” where the plan pays up to a set price and you cover the difference, usually a few dollars. If yours is one of those, ask the pharmacist for the fully covered version. There is one for each type³.

Not covered: testosterone, compounded creams, private clinic fees, and the new non-hormonal hot-flash pills.

The cost question is gone. What’s left is the real one: is it right for you, and in what form. That’s worth a proper conversation. If your own doctor isn’t the person to have it with, here is every certified menopause clinician in BC.
